    ABOUT US

What is Jeet Kune Do?

Bruce Lee developed Jeet Kune Do (JKD) after a life of exposure to a plethora different disciplines of martial arts, ranging from western boxing to fencing to Wing Chun to Wrestling and many, many more. Drawing from the useful portions of each art, Lee produced an ever-evolving system that teaches the student to use every aspect of his or her body in a fight. Indeed JKD can be described as "the search for the common thread amongst arts".

Once a person is trained to use the head, elbows, hands, knees and feet, the person can cope with whatever situation is presented, using only the tools necessary to win and walk away. One could sum it up as: "A JKD man or woman does not concern him or herself with meeting the average 'street fighter' or 'black belt'. Rather, one pictures fighting a crazed guy high on drugs and hell bent on inflicting serious harm."

In short, JKD Concepts are taught to students not only for the deep discipline it takes to learn them, but to train the student for what we all hope never happens: An attack or physical altercation ("fight") on the street.

HAVOC Jeet Kune Do

HAVOC is an acronym, as well as a paradigm. Literally it means “Hostile Aggressive Violent Offender Combatives” - which represent the main types of confrontation one may encounter. It also refers to the very nature of combat itself, which is fast, chaotic and very unpredictable.

It is important to realise that most Martial Artists are not always qualified or capable of delivering such specialised training. Most rarely encounter any real world violence and are instead limited to dojo sparring and sport environments. With Jay you get a PROVEN methodology that has been utilised and developed PERSONALLY over 18 years of experience in some of the most dangerous confrontations imaginable.

The founder of HAVOC JKD -  Sifu Jay -  is a serving Police Officer with the City of Calgary, and has been an active Police Officer for over 18 years. He is recognised by Canadian and UK courts as a “Use of Force” subject matter expert, and has given testimony numerous times in this capacity. Jay has also lectured internationally on Post-Conflict Articulation and Situational Awareness

Jay's extensive Law Enforcement and Martial Arts experience gives him a unique insight into the world of Personal Security services. He offers unparralleled training that is not just focused on the physical aspects of interpersonal conflict, but the legal and moral considerations. As Jay himself says “Most combat training gives you a series of weapons to use....I prefer to give you a box of tools”

Instructors

Simon has been training in the Martial Arts for over 30 years. He began aged 17 studying Shaolin Long Fist Kung Fu. This training was to last well into his 20s.
He then went on to study Jeet Kune Do, under Guro Lee Banda.
Unfortunately after several years of Jeet Kune Do study and while training to become an Assistant Instructor (Simon was already teaching several classes), the club closed and a new search was to begin. Simon met David Arnold, the principal Instructor of the UK Quanfa Academy and soon became impressed with both David Arnold and the TEH JI HAN JEUNG DAO system.
After a few years Simon became an Associate Instructor. Continued diligent study both inside and outside of the class has now seen Simon obtain the rank of Full Instructor.
Simon continued to develop the system and his research has exposed him to Muay Thai under Master Sken, Eskrima under Guru Khrishna Godhania (Warriors Eskrima), D.A.R.T (Karate) under Dr John Titchen , Tai Chi under David Arnold and Simon Watson and Simon has also been a private student of Grand Master Danny Guba (Doce Pares Eskrima).
Simon teaches at community level, but also teaches at seminars around the country.
Simon now teaches HAVOC Jeet Kune Do under Jay Cooper of HAVOC JKD in Canada.
